About the Doctor
Dr. Jennifer O. Chan is double board certified and brings extensive expertise in hiatal hernia repair and thoracic surgery. Her clinical focus includes minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques for hiatal hernias, as well as surgical treatment of lung cancer, benign lung conditions, esophageal disorders, and mediastinal diseases. A San Francisco native, Dr. Chan earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Duke University and completed advanced surgical training at the University of Southern California and the University of Michigan. Throughout her career, she has helped develop surgical programs and incorporate evolving technologies, including robotic platforms that enhance visualization and surgical precision. Dr. Chan emphasizes a collaborative physician–patient relationship. She works closely with each patient to review diagnostic findings, explain evidence-based treatment options, and create a comprehensive surgical plan tailored to individual anatomy and goals. She also coordinates care with referring physicians and specialists to ensure continuity before and after surgery. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Chan enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking, and exploring the Bay Area. She offers both in-person and virtual consultations.
